Peconic Oyster Dregs Hunt & Beach Clean up
Old Man Winter made a mess this year. He stole our gear and gave the Peconic Estuary a serious beating, leaving behind ghost oyster gear, traps, and debris scattered across our shorelines.
Now that Springtime has pushed him out the door, LIOGA is teaming up with Suffolk County, who are using drones to spot ghost oyster gear and other winter debris along the Peconic shorelines. We are turning that data into organized pickup zones so we can clean up efficiently and keep our shores as pristine and beautiful as possible.

Commitment Issues? – Live on the Edge
Show up between 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM on Saturday at one of these locations and we will point you to a beach that needs some love:
Greenport Brewery Peconic location
Ram’s Head Inn, Shelter Island
Kidd Squid, Sag Harbor
After the Cleanup
Haul your collected debris to the nearest designated drop-off point (trucks and trailers recommended). If you do not have a vehicle, pile the debris neatly near the road for later pickup. When you drop off your haul, we will reward you with a token good for two drinks (beer or wine) and oysters compliments of LIOGA at either Greenport Brewery location on the North Fork, Ram’s Head Inn Shelter Island , or Kidd Squid East Hampton.
Thanks to Suffolk County for providing drones and sanitation trucks. The towns surrounding the peconic; Southold, East Hampton, Sag Harbor and Southampton have all graciously opened their transfer stations for the county trucks to drop off debris.
